The Equalization Department advises and assists the Board of Commissioners in equalizing property tax assessments on a county-wide basis. In conformance with state directives the Department conducts annual sales and appraisal studies. These studies are used to equalize assessed values for each class of property in each of the seventeen local units of government within Barry County. The Department assists local assessing officers in the discovery, listing and valuation of properties for tax purposes, and in the development and use of valuation standards and techniques for the assessment of property.
Land Information Services handles parcel mapping and supports local units of government, county departments and county affiliates in the creation of necessary spatial data layers. LIS researchs and produces maps, digital applications, and reports concerning roads, land ownership, planning & zoning, surface hydrology, invasive species, 911 dispatch and other business needs. LIS also publishs the county road map and partners with the Barry County Fair Board and J-Ad Graphics to produce the Barry County Plat Book.
